I struggle with even posting something about this because I have no desire to give life to this but I’m having a Drake moment- Yes, I am in my feelings. Personally, I think I am still in shock. If you haven’t heard, Lil Nas X collaborated with MSCHF to sell 666 pairs of Nike Air Max 97 with a drop of human blood in them. The shoes went on sale for $1018.00 on March 29, 2021. The shoe is known as the satan shoe.
Nike quickly put out a statement that said they have nothing to do with this development and sale of the black and red 97s with a pentagram and Luke 10:18 printed on them. Nike is suing the rapper (I hope MSCHF is included in the lawsuit).
Personally, I am shocked that someone(s) put enough thought into this idea to bring it to market. I am shocked at the manufacturer that made this possible, the collaboration, and the 666 people that purchased this shoe. (They apparently sold out in under a minute). We are still in a pandemic and the exchange of anyone’s bodily fluid that you do not know is extremely frightening to me. I decided not to post a picture of the shoe but here are the links to where you can see the shoes.
I really have questions BUT do I really want the answers? I don’t know. I really do not have the words.
Update: 4/1 – A temporary restraining order was issue against MSCHF and Lil Nas X from completing any additional order of the shoe. Lil Nas X comments “i haven’t been upset until today, i feel like it’s f—ed up they have so much power they can get shoes cancelled” – Really, IT’S NIKE’S DESIGN! Again, What do you expect?
MSCHF also release a Jesus Shoe. They were released in 2019. The soles of the shoe had Holy Water from the Jordan River. (You can walk on water) The Jesus shoe was also an Air Max 97. The shoe was outfitted with a crucifix, a notation from Bible verse Matthew 18:25 and drops of red ink symbolizing the blood of Christ. The price $3000. At least MSCHF is equal opportunity.
